Thirty minutes later, Sofía left Mirielle in an outdoor hallway by a glass door with the words, USMA Weekly, scrawled across it. Sofía’s eyes were watery. “Tell Polly to come home. Whatever she’s doing, it’s not good.”

“I will. Thank you, Sofía.” She gave Sofía a quick hug.

Inside the student newspaper office, Mirielle introduced herself to the student by the door. “I’m visiting from the US and I wonder if I could look through your archives?”

The young brunette woman gave her a curious look. “Of course. We have everything on file right over there at that terminal.” She showed Mirielle the main page and the search feature.

Mirielle plugged in “Polly Pineda” and the system returned four articles. She skimmed the titles and summaries.

In an increasingly global economy, countries that do not have sound tax legislation or practices are listed as a warning to other economic actors.

Statute of Limitation Impacted Trial

The Supreme Court of Justice weighed in on a sexual assault committed in 2006. In refusing to hear the case, the Court returned the issue to the Panama National Assembly. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments from both sides. The victim is now a 65-year-old woman. In the years since the rape, the alibi used by the accused has recanted. The current statute of limitations in cases of sexual assault of adults brings into question the authority of the Court to make a ruling.
